In our history class at Rise Academy, change is a constant topic for exploration, so we applied the idea of change. Each student crafted a question to their congressman. Collectively, we selected one to represent our class. Here is our question.

TellDC mourns the passing of Congressman Donald Payne. Rep. Payne served in Congress since 1988, when he was the first African American from New Jersey elected to the House. He was known both for his commitment to human rights and alleviating poverty as well as reaching across party lines and ethnic barriers in support of his progressive ideals. Rep. Payne embodied the highest ethical standards including transparency and accountability; and to this end was both an early adopter and strong supporter of TellDC.com. Rep. Payne will be sorely missed. Our condolences go out to his family.

Education

It has come to my attention that education has not improved with the Federal Government controlling education. Far too many students finish at the supposed top of their class, yet cannot spell or use correct words in their written material. Education should and must be returned to the states and local control. The Federal Department of Education must be shut down. It costs the taxpayers far too much money for something they get no real return on their money for.
