Legalize Pot
Should we legalize marijuana to make it safer and tax it to improve our economy?
Many say Marijuana is a harmless recreational drug, far less dangerous than alcohol or cigarettes, with many beneficial properties for both medical conditions and mood disorders. Legalizing marijuana would accomplish a number of important objectives-- insuring a safe, legal, affordable, and quality assured distribution means; offering much needed medical benefits for nausea and anxiety relief among other conditions; providing a safer alternative to alcohol and tobacco products; and contributing significant tax revenues to the federal government. Legalizing marijuana would also take an enormous burden off of our overtaxed legal, justice, and prison systems, saving billions of dollars per year in police investigations and arrests, trials, and imprisonment.

Why don't we legalize marijuana to make it safer, more affordable, and collect taxes on it which will go a long way towards helping us out of our financial rut?

It's only politics that is preventing the legalization of marijuana. Our Country needs additional revenue sources so let's legalize it.

@ Linda
You have been misinformed. There is a LOT of money to be made. People can grow a lot of things, like, tomatoes, cotton, sugar cane... but going to the store to purchase those things suits the majority of the people. My father-in-law grows tomatoes, but they still sell the heck out of them at Kroger. Same deal. And no, THC doesnt hurt your brain. Some people are just stupid period, and when they use cannabis it doesn't get better. ;) No matter how you feel about it, spending billions to arrest pot smokers is crazy!

If it is leagalized, I dont think the gov. would make money, as anyone could then grow their own. But it would keep the mexicans out, and less money going to the cartel. (Yes, they still have thier coke and opium.) I know people who have smoked for 40 years, to relax, and they have still been productive citizens, owning homes and raising kids who are in college now. There would be problems with being high at work, an insurance issue, And I am sure an unfiltered pot cigarette is worse then a normal one. The THC alone, over time, has to have some effect on your brain and heart.

Right on Eric! The "negatives" come from the prohibition. Its time to stop wasting money arresting innocent people, and start making money to do things that really matter. I recently watched a video of a no-knock being issued and a poor dog being shot... I mean, this is the Land of the FREE right?!

I think that legalizing, or at the very least decriminalizing, the use of marijuana is a no-brainer (pardon the pun, tea partiers.) The tax revenue alone would make a big dent in reducing the deficits of states as well as the federal government. If the FOOLS in Washington refuse to increase the tax on the upper 1 or 2% the only solution is to cut spending and the first things that they cut are Social Security and Medicare, which is just not right. There are just some things that the government SHOULD be involved in and health care, education, and housing are examples. Do the right thing!

"Marijuana is a harmless recreational drug..." You have obviously never seen someone stoned! I see NOTHING harmless in a stoned person getting behind the wheel of a car! HOWEVER, a person who smokes a cigarette is quite capable of operating large machinery, and yet, this is your argument! For years kids have been taught to "say no to drugs" and that marijuana leads to harder drugs, and NOW the very same people are trying to turn it around to say that it is completely harmless. I am not buying what you're selling. Stoned is stoned, and that cannot be "harmless" to self or others!!

why wouldnt you treat it like alcohol? its illegal to drive under the influence of anything. mariujuana being legal wouldnt change that. and just so you know we are the people that people like you and the fed gov tried to brainwash into thinking all kinds of bad things about it and keep the power in there hands. I am fully capable of saying no for myself. I say we legalize it.
