I don't understand why mercury filled light-bulbs are better than incandescent bulbs. Wouldn't it be more environmentally sound to find a way to recycle non-lethal incandescent bulbs than poison all of our landfills? If you put a 100% tax on incandescent bulbs for recycling making them $1.20 they would still be a lot cheaper than the mercury bulbs and I won't have to struggle to read. People that buy the mercury bulbs don't register their purchase so we won't know who to blame when our water starts showing signs of mercury. T

Incandescent bulbs require more energy than mercury, or flourescent, or the new LED technology. Since Republicans refuse to allow our nation to improve our Energy network and Infrastructure needs, we have to use lower energy solutions. In regard to mercury bulbs, let us hope these will be phased out soon, as well. If Republicans could learn to play together with Independents and Democrats, better solutions could occur quicker. Obstruction serves no one. Republicans control the purse strings at the moment. Don't blame Obama. He can only sign responsible legislation, not create it.

There are plenty of viable solutions to our energy problems. Sadly, it's hard to find a corporation that can compete with the labor market in China and the need to make money inherent in the way corporations operate. Did you know that fracking could allow us to increase the geo-thrermal energy production instead of bringing Shale Tar (heavier than water oil) up to the surface? Shale Tar cannot be removed from streambeds and lakes, in case of a spill! But Using Geo-thermal to heat water is a great way to create energy with no pollution. Could we please explore this more? Solar and Wind, too.

Here's something sustainable for you, UTILIZE OUR OWN RESOURCES! We have enough to last over 500 years. That will give us plenty of time and money to research and invest in alternative energy without going to war or into poverty and communism. And create jobs for everybody in America. For you "More oil nuts"! Obama has created more new oil leases than Bush ever did. Also, the whine about the oil leases is mostly BS. Thousands of leaseholders can't get the oil Companies to pump the oil out. The Oil Companies use their PR machine to get the US Government to sell off the final 22 per cent of the leases, so the Oil Companies can completely control the resource. Maybe it's a good thing we make the Oil Companies pump the wells they drilled, and never used. Don't you think so, too? Too many people who bought the leases deserve our support, too. Learn the facts!

I just heard that only about 10-20% of current oil wells are actually running at a profit -- the rest run at a LOSS! Oil is 19th and 20th century energy that we are dragging into the 21st at great cost to ourselves and the planet. We have plenty of healthy, sustainable resources to develop and invest in, which would also support necessary new jobs.

Exactly what reform are you wanting? Continued prevention of drilling for oil to become independent from countries that hate us because someone is afraid some animal will become extinct? The USA can't be held hostage for this purpose. I love animals, but many species have become extinct over the years and the earth is still going round.
